Bhuvan Chandra Khanduri, the former Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, passed away on Wednesday in Dehradun after a prolonged illness. He was 90 years old. Khanduri had been battling age-related ailments for some time and was under medical care at a private hospital in the state capital.
Political Career and Legacy
Khanduri served as the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand twice, first from 2007 to 2009 and again from 2011 to 2012. He was a prominent leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and played a crucial role in the state's development after its formation in 2000. Known for his administrative acumen and integrity, Khanduri was also a former Union Minister and served as the Member of Parliament from Garhwal constituency.
Born on October 1, 1934, in the Pauri Garhwal district, Khanduri began his political journey as a member of the Jan Sangh. He was elected to the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly in 1974 and later became a key figure in the movement for a separate Uttarakhand state. After the state's creation, he was elected to the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly from Dhumakot.

Last Rites and Family
Khanduri is survived by his wife, two sons, and a daughter. His last rites are scheduled to be performed in Dehradun on Thursday with full state honors. The Uttarakhand government has declared a three-day state mourning as a mark of respect.
