A significant fire incident occurred on Saturday morning at a flat in Siya Complex, located in Bordem, Bicholim. The firefighting team initially estimated the damage at Rs 15 lakh, but the flat owner, Santosh Sutar, reported losses of approximately Rs 25 lakh. The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time.

Firefighting Response

At around 9:45 AM, a team from the Bicholim fire station, led by leading firefighter Rajan Parab and under the supervision of Sub Officer (SO) Shivaji Naik, arrived at the scene. However, the intensity of the blaze prevented the crew from entering the flat, necessitating a call for an additional fire tender.

Efforts to Control the Blaze

The firefighters worked tirelessly for nearly one and a half hours to bring the fire under control. Despite their efforts, the flat suffered extensive damage.

Losses Incurred

According to Santosh Sutar, the fire destroyed valuable items including gold ornaments, cash, electrical appliances, important documents, and other household goods. The total loss claimed by the owner stands at Rs 25 lakh, while the official assessment by the fire department is Rs 15 lakh.
