Bihar's Governor-Designate Arrives in Patna Ahead of Swearing-In Ceremony
Patna witnessed a significant political event on Thursday as Lt Gen Syed Ata Hasnain (retd), the governor-designate of Bihar, arrived in the city. His arrival comes just two days before his scheduled swearing-in ceremony, which is set for March 14 at 11 am at Raj Bhavan.
Official Welcome at the Airport
Upon landing at the airport, Hasnain was formally received by a delegation of state officials. Industries Minister Dilip Kumar Jaiswal and Education Minister Sunil Kumar, acting on behalf of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, extended a warm welcome on behalf of the Bihar government. The presence of Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha, Assembly Speaker Prem Kumar, and Legislative Council Chairman Awadhesh Narayan Singh further underscored the importance of the occasion.
Assembly Speaker Prem Kumar, in his welcoming remarks, highlighted Bihar's historical significance, describing it as the "mother of democracy." He expressed optimism that the state would achieve new milestones in progress and development under Hasnain's tenure as governor.

Industries Minister Dilip Jaiswal emphasized Hasnain's distinguished military career, noting that his discipline, dedication to national service, and leadership qualities would inject fresh energy into Bihar's administrative framework and social initiatives. Jaiswal stated that under Hasnain's guidance, Bihar is poised to advance on a path marked by good governance, sustainable development, and enhanced public welfare.
Transition to Raj Bhavan and Career Highlights
After the airport reception, Hasnain proceeded to Raj Bhavan, where he was greeted by Governor's Principal Secretary Robert L Chongthu and other senior officials. Lt Gen Syed Ata Hasnain brings a wealth of experience from his extensive military and post-retirement roles.
His career includes serving as the Military Secretary in the Indian Army, a key administrative position. Prior to that, he commanded the 15 Corps in Jammu and Kashmir, one of the Army's most critical operational assignments, demonstrating his strategic acumen in challenging environments.
In 2018, Hasnain was appointed as the chancellor of the Central University of Kashmir, contributing to the education sector. More recently, in 2020, he was named a member of the National Disaster Management Authority, showcasing his ongoing commitment to public service and crisis management.
The swearing-in ceremony on March 14 is expected to be a formal affair, marking the beginning of Hasnain's tenure as the constitutional head of Bihar.
