A political confrontation has emerged between former Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai and his erstwhile party regarding the Centre's extensive security arrangements for the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination scheduled for June 21. Annamalai criticized the multi-layered measures—including escorts from the Central Reserve Police Force and Central Industrial Security Force, AI-powered surveillance, biometric checks, and monitoring by the Prime Minister's Office—arguing that these would heighten student anxiety rather than provide reassurance. He questioned whether such arrangements align with the National Education Policy's objective of reducing examination pressure. BJP leaders retaliated, defending the measures as essential for ensuring a leak-free examination after the original test was canceled due to an alleged paper leak. Over 22 lakh candidates are expected to appear for the retest.
