BJP Announces 11 Candidates for Maharashtra MLC Polls

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) late Sunday night released its list of 11 candidates for the upcoming Maharashtra Legislative Council (MLC) elections. Among the notable names is Prajakt Tanpure, who joined the BJP less than 24 hours before being announced as the party's candidate from the Ahilyanagar constituency. Another key candidate is Arun Lakhani, the father-in-law of Revati Sule, daughter of NCP (SP) MP Supriya Sule from Baramati. Lakhani will contest from the Wardha-Chandrapur-Gadchiroli seat.

Full List of Candidates

The BJP has fielded candidates for the following seats: Avinash Brahmankar from Bhandara-Gondia, Pravin Pote Patil from Amravati, Dhairyashil Kadam from Sangli-Satara, Rajendra Raut from Solapur, Suhas Shirsat from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar-Jalna, Amar Rajurkar from Nanded, Basavraj Patil from Dharashiv-Latur-Beed, and Nandkishore Mahajan from Jalgaon. For the Nagpur seat, the party has nominated Dr. Rajiv Potdar.

Term and Election Details

While all candidates will contest for local body seats, ten of them will serve a six-year term. The Nagpur seat, however, is a bypoll election necessitated by the resignation of state revenue minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, who was elected to the state assembly in 2024.
