Ranchi: BJP president Nitin Nabin commenced his two-day visit to Jharkhand on Saturday, marking his first trip to the state since assuming the party's top post. The visit comes ahead of the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections in the state.
Grand Welcome and Tribute to Birsa Munda
Upon his arrival at the Ranchi airport, Nabin was greeted with a grand welcome by BJP MPs, MLAs, and party office-bearers. He described Ranchi as his second home, recalling his early years spent in the city. The BJP chief began his itinerary by paying tribute to the statue of tribal icon Birsa Munda, a symbolic gesture reflecting the party's outreach to tribal communities.
Meetings Focus on Organisation and Rajya Sabha Strategy
Throughout the day, Nabin held a series of meetings with core committee members and state unit office-bearers, concentrating on organisational matters and preparations for the Rajya Sabha polls. He also held separate discussions with constituents of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), including the AJSU Party and Janata Dal (United), to deliberate on potential Rajya Sabha candidates.
BJP general secretary Amar Kumar Bauri highlighted the significance of the visit, stating, 'The visit will infuse fresh energy among all workers of the state unit and further strengthen the party at every level.' Party insiders revealed that Nabin's meeting with NDA allies focused on finalising the Rajya Sabha candidate.
Nomination Process Underway
The BJP has announced its intention to contest the Rajya Sabha election but has yet to officially name its candidate. However, party functionary Gourav Vallabh arrived in Ranchi on Saturday and obtained the nomination papers. The nomination window is set to close on June 8.
BJP veteran and Ranchi MLA C. P. Singh expressed optimism that the renewed focus on organisational strength would help the party return to power in Jharkhand. 'We are confident that the BJP will form the government in the state in 2029. This visit lays the groundwork for that goal,' he said.
Engagement with Intellectuals
In the evening, Nabin also convened a meeting with a select group of intellectuals from Ranchi, further broadening the party's engagement with diverse sections of society.
