A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader has lodged a police complaint alleging a link between Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Abhishek Banerjee and a soil pilferage racket. Abhijit Das, a resident of Diamond Harbour, submitted his complaint at the Kalitala Ashuti Police Station near Budge Budge on Monday.
Details of the Complaint
Das accused Banerjee of being involved in illegal soil extraction activities in the region. The complaint claims that the soil pilferage racket has been operating with the knowledge and support of local political figures. The BJP leader urged the police to investigate the matter thoroughly and take appropriate legal action against those responsible.
Police Response
Authorities at the Kalitala Ashuti Police Station confirmed receiving the complaint. They stated that the allegations would be examined, and necessary steps would be taken as per the law. No immediate comment was available from Abhishek Banerjee or his representatives.
Political Reactions
The complaint has sparked a fresh political controversy in West Bengal. BJP leaders have seized the opportunity to target the TMC, accusing the ruling party of condoning illegal activities. TMC spokespersons dismissed the allegations as baseless and politically motivated, asserting that Banerjee has no involvement in any such racket.
This development comes amid ongoing tensions between the BJP and TMC in the state, with both parties frequently trading accusations over corruption and governance issues.
