BJP Leader Seeks Rs 10,000 Crore Package for Amritsar

Amritsar: Punjab BJP general secretary and former IAS officer Jagmohan Singh Raju has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to sanction a Rs 10,000-crore economic package for Amritsar, coinciding with the city's upcoming 550th foundation year.

In a letter dated April 23, a copy of which was released to media, Raju proposed bringing Amritsar under the City Economic Region (CER) framework and the Bharat Audyogik Vikas Yojna (BHAVYA) to accelerate integrated development. Highlighting the city's rich heritage — home to Harmandir Sahib, Durgiana Temple and Ram Tirath — he said it reflects India's shared civilisational legacy.

Despite its global recognition and strategic border location, Raju wrote that Amritsar's economic potential remains underutilised. He suggested developing it as a major hub for trade, logistics, and export-led growth by integrating nearby districts and establishing a plug-and-play industrial park.

He emphasised that such a move would honour the legacy of Guru Ram Das and align with the vision of a 'Viksit Bharat'.
