Dehradun: Barely two days after BJP national president Nitin Nabin concluded his three-day visit to Uttarakhand, the party replaced its state general secretary (organisation), Ajaey Kumar, transferring him to the same position in Rajasthan. The reshuffle, ahead of the 2027 assembly elections, is being viewed as a significant organisational development in the state.

Kumar's tenure and achievements

Kumar was appointed BJP’s Uttarakhand general secretary (organisation) in September 2019. During his tenure, the party retained power in the 2022 assembly elections and went on to win all five Lok Sabha seats in the state in 2024. BJP state media in-charge Manveer Singh Chauhan credited Kumar with strengthening the party’s organisational base.

“Kumar played a crucial role in expanding the BJP’s reach in Uttarakhand and contributed significantly to the party’s victories in the 2022 assembly and 2024 Lok Sabha elections. His guidance was also instrumental in the party’s success in mayoral, municipal and panchayat polls. He has now been entrusted with the important responsibility of Rajasthan and we hope he will further strengthen the organisation there,” Chauhan said.

Congress reaction

Congress, however, linked the move to the political situation in the state. State Congress chief spokesperson Garima Dasauni said the change had been anticipated. “The public mood in state is turning against the BJP and the party is aware of it. That is why he was shifted soon after Nabin’s visit,” she claimed.
