BJP Accuses Congress of Emergency Mindset After Gehlot's Remarks
BJP Slams Congress Over Gehlot's 'Emergency' Statement

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday launched a sharp attack on the Congress party after former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot's recent remarks, accusing it of harboring an 'Emergency mindset'. BJP leader Pradeep Bhandari stated that Gehlot's statement clearly indicates that the Congress is anti-democracy and would not hesitate to ban rival political parties if it returns to power at the Centre.

BJP's Strong Response

Addressing the media, Pradeep Bhandari said, 'Ashok Gehlot's statement makes it clear that the Congress is anti-democracy. The Gandhi-Vadra family is the biggest threat to Indian democracy.' He further alleged that the Congress party has not shed its authoritarian tendencies from the Emergency era (1975-77) and continues to pose a danger to democratic institutions.

Gehlot's Controversial Remarks

The controversy erupted after Ashok Gehlot, in a public address, made comments that were interpreted by the BJP as a veiled threat to political opponents. While the Congress has not officially clarified Gehlot's remarks, the BJP seized the opportunity to criticize the party's historical record during the Emergency imposed by then-Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

Bhandari warned that if Congress is voted to power, it would 'ban rivals' and undermine the democratic fabric of the nation. He urged voters to reject the Congress party in the upcoming elections to safeguard democracy.

Political Reactions

The BJP's attack comes amid heightened political tensions, with both parties trading barbs over issues of governance and democracy. Congress leaders have dismissed the BJP's accusations as baseless and an attempt to divert attention from pressing national issues.

Political analysts note that the Emergency period remains a sensitive topic in Indian politics, often used by parties to question each other's commitment to democratic values. The BJP's latest salvo is seen as an effort to consolidate its anti-Congress narrative ahead of key elections.
