Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Friday attributed the Bharatiya Janata Party's consistent electoral success to its unwavering commitment to fulfilling promises made to the people. He asserted that the party has remained steadfast to its ideology since the days of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh.
Secret of BJP's Success
Addressing the opposition, Samrat said, "I want to tell the opposition about the secret of BJP’s success in elections after elections. It is because unlike the previous Congress regime, the BJP-led NDA government meets people’s basic needs and provides food, electricity, tap drinking water and road and rail connectivity."
Historic Achievements
Highlighting what he described as the BJP’s major achievements, Samrat said the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A in Jammu and Kashmir was a historic commitment fulfilled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He also cited the construction of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya as the realisation of a long-standing promise. "The BJP has never wavered from its agenda and ideology," Samrat said while listing the achievements of Prime Minister Modi during his 12 years at the helm of the country.
Bihar's Development
Responding to a question on Bihar’s position in NITI Aayog reports, Samrat blamed the 15-year rule of Lalu Prasad and Rabri Devi for the state’s backwardness. "It was tough for the NDA government to bridge that gap when nothing happened in Bihar. But the state gained momentum for progress under the leadership of PM Modi and former CM Nitish Kumar. Now Bihar has the maximum ‘lakhpati didis’ compared to other states," he said.
Controversy Over Bungalow
On the political controversy surrounding the notice issued to former CM Rabri Devi to vacate the 10, Circular Road bungalow, Samrat said the matter was governed by rules and not personal considerations. "The rule will also apply to me when I am not the CM. I admit that Lalu Prasad is a great leader but he should show a big heart as well," he said.
Corruption and Law and Order
Addressing concerns over corruption and law and order, Samrat maintained that action would be taken against anyone against whom evidence exists. "There is no government interference in police action," he said.
Financial Crisis Denied
Rejecting opposition allegations of a financial crisis, Samrat said pensions and salaries were basic rights of government employees. "A bill of Rs 15,000 crore sent to the treasury will be cleared by Monday. As far as drawing amount from the Bihar Contingency Fund to pay social security pensions, the governments do so and it will be adjusted in the first supplementary budget likely soon. CCTV cameras are being installed in every police station and block office to note the movement of unscrupulous movements and check corruption. Sahyog programme is held on every first and third Tuesday of the month and officials must take action on people’s application within 30 days or face punishment," he said.
