BJP leader V Muraleedharan has asserted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has far more important priorities than engaging in political deals with the Congress party to undermine the Communist Party of India (Marxist) or CPI(M) in Kerala. Speaking to the media, Muraleedharan dismissed any speculation of a BJP-Congress alliance against the Left front, emphasizing that the Prime Minister's agenda is focused on national development and governance.
Muraleedharan's Remarks on ED Raids
The BJP leader also questioned Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan's apparent anxiety over the Enforcement Directorate (ED) raids conducted at his official residences. Muraleedharan pointed out that if Vijayan had nothing to hide, there should be no reason for concern. He stated, 'Why should the Chief Minister be worried about the ED raids if he has done no wrong? The law is taking its course, and those who are innocent have nothing to fear.'
Political Context in Kerala
These comments come amid heightened political tensions in Kerala, where the ruling CPI(M) has accused the BJP-led central government of misusing federal agencies like the ED to target opposition leaders. The ED raids on properties linked to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan have sparked a political firestorm, with the Left parties alleging a witch-hunt. However, the BJP has maintained that the actions are purely legal and aimed at investigating financial irregularities.
Muraleedharan's statement reinforces the BJP's stance that it will not engage in backroom deals with the Congress, a party it considers a political rival. He reiterated that the BJP's focus remains on its developmental agenda and that the Prime Minister's schedule is packed with initiatives for the nation's progress.
The political landscape in Kerala remains volatile, with all major parties gearing up for future electoral battles. The BJP's clear rejection of any alliance with the Congress signals that the party is confident in its own growth strategy in the state, where it has been striving to expand its footprint.
