Senior BJP leader Tai Tagak has been elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Arunachal Pradesh, an official statement confirmed on Thursday. Assembly Secretary and Returning Officer Tadar Meena announced the result after the withdrawal period for candidatures ended at 3:00 pm.
Lone Candidate Secures Victory
Tagak was the only candidate who had filed his nomination papers for the seat, leading Meena to declare the result as per the provisions of sub-section (2)/sub-section (3) of Section 53 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, read with sub-rule (1) of Rule 11 of the Conduct of Elections Rules, 1961.
The official certificate was presented to Tagak during a ceremony at the Nokmey Namati Hall in Itanagar. The event was attended by Chief Electoral Officer and Observer Pawan Kumar Sain, Joint CEO Liken Koyu, Assistant Returning Officer Longman Ronrang, and senior members from the state's party unit.
Congratulatory Meeting
Following the declaration, Tagak called on Speaker Tesam Pongte at his chamber. The Speaker congratulated him on being elected unopposed and wished him success in his tenure.
This election underscores the BJP's strong presence in Arunachal Pradesh, as Tagak's unopposed victory reflects the party's organizational strength and political consensus in the state.
