BKU Charuni Slams Union Budget 2026-27 as Anti-Farmer, Demands MSP Legal Guarantee
BKU Charuni Criticises Union Budget 2026-27 as Anti-Farmer

Farmers' Union BKU Charuni Condemns Union Budget 2026-27 as Anti-Farmer and Disappointing

The Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) Charuni has launched a scathing critique of the Union Budget 2026-27 presented by the Central Government on Sunday, labeling it as anti-farmer, deeply disappointing, and disconnected from ground realities. The farmers' body expressed that millions of agriculturalists across India had pinned high hopes on this budget, only to see their expectations shattered once again.

Budget Focus on Technology While Ignoring Farmers' Immediate Concerns

In a strongly worded statement issued shortly after the budget presentation, BKU (Charuni) media in-charge Rakesh Kumar Bains pointed out that the government's budget speech was heavily tilted toward technology, artificial intelligence, digital platforms, and futuristic plans. However, it completely overlooked the urgent and pressing issues confronting the farming community nationwide.

Key Demands Left Unaddressed in the Budget

The farm union highlighted several critical areas where the budget remained conspicuously silent:

  • Legal guarantee for Minimum Support Price (MSP) for crops, a long-standing demand of farmers
  • The continuously escalating cost of farming operations
  • Sharp increases in prices of essential agricultural inputs including diesel, fertilizers, seeds, and pesticides
  • Comprehensive loan waivers for debt-burdened farmers struggling with financial stress
  • Concrete measures for adequate compensation for crop losses caused by natural disasters
  • Enhancement of the amount under the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme

Inadequate PM-Kisan Assistance and Betrayal of Trust

According to BKU (Charuni), the annual assistance of Rs 6,000 provided under the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme has become grossly inadequate in current economic conditions, effectively turning into what they term a mockery for farmers. Despite repeated government assurances, the budget contained no firm announcement to increase this amount.

Similarly, the farm union expressed profound disappointment over the government's continued silence on granting a legal guarantee to MSP, characterizing this omission as a betrayal of farmers' trust and a failure to honor commitments made to the agricultural community.

Farmers' Needs Versus Government Priorities

The farmers' union alleged that while the budget appears to provide relief to corporate entities and promotes policies on paper, it fundamentally fails to address the genuine concerns of those who toil in the fields. Farmers do not need Apps or speeches; they need fair prices, security and dignity, the statement emphasized, highlighting the disconnect between technological aspirations and ground-level agricultural realities.

Specific Demands and Warning of Future Action

BKU (Charuni) has presented a clear set of demands to the government:

  1. Immediate provision of a legal guarantee for Minimum Support Price
  2. Increase of PM-Kisan assistance to at least Rs 12,000 per year
  3. Implementation of loan waivers along with affordable credit facilities for farmers
  4. Reform of the crop insurance scheme to make it simpler, transparent, and farmer-friendly

Issuing a stern warning about potential future actions, BKU Charuni stated that if the government continues to ignore farmers' legitimate issues, the union will not hesitate to adopt agitational measures to protect farmers' interests and ensure their voices are heard.

The criticism from this prominent farmers' organization underscores the growing discontent within the agricultural sector regarding budget allocations and policy priorities, suggesting that farmer welfare remains a contentious issue in India's economic planning.
