CBI Arrests 10 in Sandeshkhali BJP Workers Killing Case

Nearly seven years after the killing of three BJP workers in Sandeshkhali during post-poll violence in West Bengal in 2019, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested 10 individuals, including local panchayat chief Kader Mollah. Mollah is a close aide of expelled Trinamool Congress (TMC) strongman Sheikh Shahjahan, who is currently in jail.

Details of the Incident

The three workers were hacked to death in June at Bhangipara village during clashes that erupted when TMC supporters allegedly attempted to forcibly hoist party flags on a BJP worker's shop. The arrests mark a significant breakthrough in the case that has remained unresolved for years.

Additional Developments

In a related development, a day after the arrest of Dipankar Bhattacharya, the chairman of Baduria municipality in the Basirhat sub-division of North 24 Parganas district, police unearthed a substantial amount of cash. The sum, amounting to Rs 2 crore 24 lakh, was discovered buried in a jute field adjacent to his farmhouse. The cash has been seized by the authorities.
