CBI Issues Summons to TVK President Vijay and DMK MLA in Karur Stampede Investigation
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has escalated its probe into the tragic Karur stampede by summoning Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president Vijay to appear at its New Delhi office on Tuesday. In a parallel development, the agency has, for the first time, issued a notice to DMK's Karur MLA V Senthilbalaji for questioning in connection with the case. However, aides of the former minister have stated that he did not receive any CBI notice.

A senior TVK functionary explained, "We informed the agency that he would not be able to travel to Delhi now due to poll-related work and personal commitments." After an initial round of questioning on January 12, Vijay had sought a revised schedule, citing the Pongal festival. He subsequently appeared on January 19, during which CBI officers indicated it would be the final session. CBI sources have confirmed receiving the latest request from Vijay's counsel and stated that the agency is currently examining the proposal to set a different date for his appearance.

During the previous interrogation session, Vijay reportedly told investigators that insufficient police deployment at his Karur rally was a contributing factor to the situation that led to the deadly stampede. The incident resulted in the loss of 41 lives. The CBI assumed control of the investigation from a special investigation team following a Supreme Court order. Separate Matter: CBFC Postpones Review of Vijay's Film
In another matter connected to Vijay, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has postponed the review of his upcoming film 'Jana Nayagan'. The review, originally scheduled for March 9, has been rescheduled to March 17. The CBFC attributed this delay to the ill health of one member of the screening panel, emphasizing that it is a routine administrative adjustment unrelated to the ongoing legal proceedings.
