Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar on Friday visited Dharamshala in Himachal Pradesh, where he held discussions with state election officials regarding the upcoming assembly elections. The visit is part of the Election Commission's ongoing preparations for the polls scheduled later this year.
Interaction with Poll Officials
During his visit, Kumar interacted with booth-level officers and other polling staff to assess the ground-level readiness. He emphasized the importance of error-free voter lists and smooth conduct of elections in the hill state.
Phase III Voter Roll Revision Skipped
The Election Commission had earlier excluded Himachal Pradesh from the third phase of the special intensive revision of electoral rolls, citing harsh weather conditions and heavy snowfall in the upper reaches. The revision drive is being carried out in other states to update voter databases.
The schedule for the voter list revision in Himachal Pradesh will be announced separately, taking into account the terrain and climatic challenges. Assembly elections in the state are due in October this year.
The Chief Election Commissioner's visit underscores the Commission's commitment to ensuring fair and transparent elections in every region, especially those with difficult geography.
