The 16-kilometre Velachery–Tambaram High Road in Chennai is set to be renamed after Major Mukund Varadharajan, a decorated Indian Army officer who was killed in action and posthumously awarded the Ashoka Chakra, India's highest peacetime gallantry honour.
Council Approval for Renaming
The Tambaram Corporation Council on Thursday approved a resolution to rename the arterial road as "Major Mukund Varadharajan Road" in recognition of his sacrifice. The proposal was taken up following approval from the Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department.

Major Mukund Varadharajan was an Indian Army officer who displayed exceptional bravery during a counter-insurgency operation in Jammu and Kashmir. He was posthumously awarded the Ashoka Chakra for his valour and sacrifice. The renaming of the road is a tribute to his service to the nation.
