Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Presents Bastar 2.0 Development Blueprint to Prime Minister Modi
In a significant move aimed at regional transformation, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Tuesday. The meeting centered on presenting the Bastar 2.0 development blueprint, a comprehensive plan designed to convert the once Naxal-infested region into a dynamic hub for infrastructure expansion, innovation-led growth, start-ups, and tourism.
From Conflict to Development: A New Era for Bastar
This initiative comes on the heels of Bastar being recently declared free from Left-wing extremism, following the elimination or surrender of all prominent CPI(Maoist) leaders. For decades, the region endured severe Naxal violence, which severely hindered development and deprived local tribal communities of essential welfare schemes. Now, Bastar is poised to become the focal point of a major development and welfare push by the state government.
During the discussions with the Prime Minister, CM Sai emphasized a forward-looking vision for Bastar's development. He highlighted the region's immense growth potential and outlined a transformative approach to accelerate economic progress while significantly improving the quality of life for its residents.
Key Projects and Invitation for Prime Minister's Visit
The Chief Minister extended a formal invitation to Prime Minister Modi to visit Bastar during the upcoming monsoon season. The purpose of the visit would be to lay foundation stones for several critical projects and inaugurate key initiatives that are set to usher in a new era of growth and prosperity for the region.
The proposed projects include:
- The Raoghat–Jagdalpur railway line to enhance connectivity
- Expansion of Jagdalpur airport to boost regional air travel
- Establishment of a super-specialty hospital and a medical college in Dantewada
- Development of 'education cities' in Jagargunda and Orchha to improve educational infrastructure
Core Strategy and Infrastructure Development
CM Sai underscored that the Bastar blueprint is built around a core strategy encapsulated by the phrase: "saturate, connect, facilitate, empower, and engage." This approach is designed to ensure rapid and inclusive expansion of basic infrastructure and essential services across the entire region.
A key focus of the plan is integrating remote and previously isolated villages into the mainstream through the development of a robust road network. According to a Chhattisgarh government official, the blueprint includes the construction of 228 new roads and 267 bridges, which will significantly improve accessibility and connectivity for local communities.
Economic and Livelihood Enhancement Initiatives
To boost livelihoods and economic stability, the state government has outlined a focused three-year plan aimed at doubling household incomes in the region. The objective is to raise the monthly earnings of nearly 85% of families from Rs 15,000 to Rs 30,000 by 2029. This ambitious target is expected to drive overall economic growth and improve the standard of living for residents.
Tourism Development and Attraction Enhancement
In the tourism sector, the blueprint prioritizes the development of key destinations with enhanced infrastructure and visitor facilities. Notable sites include:
- Chitrakote Waterfalls
- Tirathgarh Waterfalls
- Kanger Valley National Park
Additionally, adventure tourism projects such as a canopy walk and a glass bridge are currently underway. These initiatives are designed to attract a wider range of tourists, thereby boosting local economies and creating new employment opportunities.
The Bastar 2.0 blueprint represents a holistic effort to transform a historically troubled region into a model of sustainable development, leveraging its natural resources and cultural heritage while ensuring inclusive growth for all its inhabitants.
