Congress 12-year report slams Modi govt 'failures'

The Congress party on Tuesday released a '12-year accountability report' detailing what it termed as the 'major failures' of the Narendra Modi government, accusing the Prime Minister of prioritizing 'publicity over performance'.

Economic decline and rupee depreciation

AICC leaders Rajeev Gowda and Amitabh Dubey highlighted the Prime Minister's repeated claims that India was on track to become the world's third-largest economy. They noted that the country has slipped from the fourth to the sixth position in global economic rankings during the Modi government's tenure.

Gowda, an economist, pointed out that the depreciation of the rupee reflects shortcomings in economic management, which has adversely affected investor confidence. He stated that foreign investors are withdrawing funds from Indian markets, leading to substantial capital outflows in recent times.

Rising prices and subsidy cuts

Dubey criticized the rising prices of essential commodities such as LPG cylinders, petrol, diesel, milk, and pulses, which have increased the financial burden on households. He also took aim at the Centre's decision to reduce the number of subsidized LPG cylinders under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY).

Job creation failures

Gowda accused the government of failing to create adequate jobs despite repeated commitments to make India a global employment hub. The Congress party's report underscores these issues as evidence of the government's underperformance.
