Congress Ramps Up Pressure on BJP Over Women's Reservation Law
The Congress party has significantly intensified its political assault on the BJP-led central government regarding the implementation of the landmark women's reservation law. In a strongly worded statement on Tuesday, party MP Praniti Shinde launched a sharp critique, accusing the ruling administration of "delaying and diluting" a legislative measure it publicly claims to champion.
Demand for Immediate Implementation
Addressing reporters in Lucknow, Shinde demanded the immediate enforcement of the women's reservation bill, which was passed by Parliament in 2023. "The women's reservation bill should be implemented immediately across all 543 Lok Sabha constituencies. The BJP government must enforce the quota without any further delay. The Congress party fully and unequivocally supports this implementation," she asserted with firm conviction.
Allegations of Deliberate Obstruction
Shinde leveled serious allegations that the Centre has strategically linked the rollout of the crucial 33% quota to delimitation and census exercises as a tactic to avoid genuine implementation. "The government is creating unnecessary procedural hurdles to postpone what should be a straightforward enforcement of parliamentary law," she contended.
While clarifying that the Congress party is not fundamentally opposed to the delimitation process, Shinde argued that any such exercise should logically follow the completion of the ongoing national census and must strictly adhere to established constitutional norms and principles.
Political Tool Accusation and Historical Context
The Congress MP further escalated her criticism by accusing the BJP of utilizing women as a "political tool" for electoral advantages rather than genuinely empowering them. "If the government was truly serious about women's empowerment, the law would have been implemented by now instead of being made conditional on various external factors," she stated emphatically.
Shinde reminded the public that the Congress has consistently championed women's political empowerment throughout its history, notably citing the 73rd Constitutional Amendment that successfully enabled 33% reservation for women in Panchayati Raj institutions across the country.

Echoing and reinforcing Shinde's remarks, Congress Legislature Party leader Aradhana Mishra Mona directly questioned the BJP's authentic commitment to gender equality in practical politics. She pointedly asked whether the ruling party would demonstrate its commitment by appointing a woman as its national president.
Mona also issued a specific challenge to the Bharatiya Janata Party government in Uttar Pradesh, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. She urged the state administration to send a formal proposal to the central government advocating for the implementation of 33% reservation for women in the Uttar Pradesh state legislative assembly.
The coordinated statements from Congress leaders represent a strategic political offensive aimed at holding the ruling party accountable on women's representation while positioning their own party as the genuine advocate for gender equality in India's democratic framework.
