Nagpur: Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar on Sunday stated that the firing incident at the White House Correspondents' Dinner, which was attended by US President Donald Trump, was inevitable given his style of governance. Drawing a parallel with India, Wadettiwar said that people here are also unhappy. He refrained from naming any leader or a constitutional post while comparing the US firing incident with India.
Wadettiwar's Remarks on Trump's Governance
"While in power, Trump sought to dominate globally and unsettle other nations. As you sow, so shall you reap. He worked to bring every country under his influence. Since things did not go the way he thought they would, this was bound to happen," Wadettiwar said, adding that Trump's decisions had damaged the US.
Public Mood in India
Wadettiwar further commented that the public mood in India is no different. "Since people here are not coming out, there is an illusion that everything is fine. But people still have the same sentiment, that India has been damaged," he said.
Condemnation of the Incident
Tempering his remarks, Wadettiwar said that the US firing incident itself was unfortunate. "This should not have happened to someone holding such a high office. But public response often reflects the nature of leadership, and such incidents are indicative of that," he said.
Trump was escorted offstage by the Secret Service at the Washington Hilton. He later stated on Truth Social that the suspect had been apprehended and that he was returning to the White House.
