Congress MP Christopher Manickam Pledges to Advocate for Tamil Nadu in Delhi
In a significant development from Trichy, newly elected Congress MP Christopher Manickam has made a firm commitment to champion Tamil Nadu's interests at the national level. Following his unopposed election to the Rajya Sabha from Tamil Nadu, Manickam addressed the media on Saturday, outlining his vision for proactive representation.
A Voice for Tamil Nadu's Needs
Christopher Manickam emphasized his dedication to raising Tamil Nadu's demands in Delhi, stating he would coordinate closely with other elected representatives to ensure the state's concerns are heard. "I will raise my voice for Tamil Nadu's needs and serve as a proactive MP," he declared, acknowledging the responsibility bestowed upon him by the Congress party high command.
The MP expressed gratitude for being selected from a normal background, highlighting that this recognition extends beyond him to grassroots cadres. "The Congress party and the high command identified me, a candidate from a normal background, for a responsible post. I will fulfil their expectations," Manickam affirmed.
Focus on Trichy's Development
Manickam revealed plans to soon begin interacting with people and functionaries, with a particular focus on Trichy's development. He pledged to work closely with other MPs in the district, ensuring collaborative efforts to address local issues. "There are several MPs in the district. I will work closely with them," he added, underscoring his commitment to teamwork.
Background and Political Journey
The 53-year-old MP brings a diverse background to his new role. Before entering politics, he worked as a merchandiser in the garment industry across Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and the Middle East until 2008. Since 2009, Manickam has maintained a low profile in Trichy and Tamil Nadu, as he was primarily associated with party activities in other states, including Kerala, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana.
Currently serving as AICC secretary in charge of Manipur, Tripura, Nagaland, and Sikkim, Manickam's political experience spans multiple regions. His election was met with a warm welcome from Congress functionaries in Trichy, led by urban district president L Rex.
As Manickam steps into his new role, his promise to be a vocal advocate for Tamil Nadu and focus on local development sets a proactive tone for his tenure in the Rajya Sabha.
