Congress MP Randhawa Slams Modi Govt Over Economic Crisis, Demands Parliament Session
Congress MP Randhawa Slams Modi Govt Over Economic Crisis

Chandigarh: Senior Congress leader and Gurdaspur MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa on Monday launched a sharp attack on the central government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the prevailing economic situation. Citing PM Modi's appeal for self-restraint amid the global crisis, the former deputy chief minister of Punjab said that warnings issued earlier by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi regarding the impending economic crisis, rising unemployment, and inflation had now proven accurate.

Randhawa's Accusations

Randhawa stated that over the last 12 years, PM Modi has brought the country to a stage where people are being told what to buy and what not to buy, and where to go and where not to go. He added that the prime minister should first apply these measures to himself. Randhawa suggested reducing the number of vehicles in political convoys and cutting down or stopping foreign tours.

Demand for Special Parliament Session

He demanded that the prime minister immediately convene a special session of Parliament to discuss the economic issue and take the nation into confidence by informing citizens about the actual situation. The Congress leader further said the country needs accountability, honest economic planning, and a foreign policy based on national interests rather than grand events and showmanship.

Economic Inequality and Policy Failures

Randhawa emphasized that strengthening the economy requires job creation, investment, and support for industry and agriculture. However, due to the current policies, economic inequality continues to increase, he said. The parliamentarian reiterated that the Congress party would continue to raise public issues and hold the central government accountable to secure the country's economic future.
