Congress MP Sukhdeo Bhagat Criticizes PM Modi's Parliament Address on Middle East Conflict

Congress Member of Parliament Sukhdeo Bhagat on Tuesday strongly criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent address in Parliament regarding the ongoing Middle East conflict, alleging that the speech lacked scope for meaningful discussion and represented what he termed as "one-way communication."

Allegations of One-Way Communication

Speaking exclusively to ANI, Bhagat expressed his disappointment with the Prime Minister's approach. "Yesterday's speech came right after Rahul Gandhi's program in Gujarat," Bhagat stated. "We were hoping for healthy discussions on critical issues of national security, energy concerns, and fuel prices. As representatives from different regions of the country, we expected to be given a proper chance to ask questions and offer suggestions about the current volatile situation. Instead, the Prime Minister simply presented all his points in a one-way manner, reminiscent of his 'Mann Ki Baat' radio program, as Rahul Gandhi has rightly pointed out."

PM Modi's Address on the Escalating Conflict

Bhagat's remarks follow Prime Minister Modi's comprehensive address in the Lok Sabha concerning the ongoing US-Israel-Iran conflict that has been intensifying across the Middle East region. In his speech, the Prime Minister highlighted how the escalating conflict, now entering its fourth consecutive week, poses significant challenges for India, particularly in terms of energy security and disruptions to international trade routes.

"The situation in the Middle East is deeply worrisome," PM Modi emphasized during his parliamentary address. "This conflict has been continuing for more than three weeks now. It has a severe impact on the global economy and the daily lives of ordinary people worldwide, which is precisely why the international community is urging all sides involved to seek an early resolution to this dangerous conflict."

Lasting Effects and India's Diplomatic Stance

The Prime Minister further cautioned that the ongoing Middle East conflict is likely to have lasting effects even as he asserted that India's diplomatic role has consistently been to advocate for de-escalating tensions between the involved parties. PM Modi stressed that dialogue and diplomacy represent the only viable solutions to this complex geopolitical problem.

He specifically noted that the country must remain fully prepared for the lasting consequences that are likely to emerge due to the US-Israel-Iran conflict, which has already created significant instability in the strategically vital region.

Concerns for Indian Nationals in Gulf Countries

One of the most significant concerns raised by the Prime Minister involved the safety and security of Indian citizens residing in Gulf countries. PM Modi noted that nearly one crore Indians currently live and work in various Gulf nations, making the escalating conflict a matter of heightened concern for the Indian government.

The Prime Minister detailed the government's proactive measures to ensure the safety of Indian nationals, facilitate potential evacuations if necessary, and maintain essential fuel supplies despite ongoing disruptions in the critical Strait of Hormuz shipping route. He revealed that over 3.75 lakh Indian nationals have already returned safely to the country, with at least 1,000 of them having been successfully escorted from Iran through coordinated government efforts.

The government continues to monitor the situation closely while implementing contingency plans to protect Indian interests and citizens affected by the Middle East conflict.
