The Congress party has launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Election Commission (EC), accusing them of being 'partners in crime' in what it claims is the latest instance of 'seat chori' (seat theft). The controversy erupted after the rejection of Congress leader Natarajan's Rajya Sabha nomination.
Congress Leader Speaks Out
Addressing a press conference alongside the Congress' Madhya Pradesh leadership, Natarajan asserted that she had duly filled Form 26, the affidavit required for candidates. She emphasized that there was no column in the form to mention private complaints, suggesting that the rejection was based on extraneous factors.
Allegations of Conspiracy
The Congress party has alleged that the rejection is part of a larger conspiracy to undermine democratic processes. Senior Congress leaders argued that the BJP and EC colluded to deny Natarajan a fair chance, calling it a blatant misuse of power.
Natarajan's rejection has sparked a political firestorm, with the Congress demanding a thorough investigation into the matter. The party has also called for electoral reforms to prevent such incidents in the future.
The EC has not yet responded to the allegations, but the BJP dismissed the charges as baseless, stating that the rejection followed due procedure.
