Dehradun: When Robin Singh Talan and Swati Kumari became sweethearts during their college days, they shared more than their love for each other. They shared a dream of serving the nation in uniform. On Saturday, that journey reached what the couple called “its most blissful chapter”, as Talan, 28, a resident of Greater Noida, was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the Indian Army with his wife, already a commissioned officer in the Indian Navy, applauding in the audience proudly.
Shared Journey of Preparation
Sharing their journey, Talan said that “both of us had been preparing together for the entrance exams to join the armed forces.” “I joined the Indian Air Force as a Corporal. Subsequently, I cracked the exam of Army Cadet College at IMA in 2022 before undergoing the necessary training to be finally commissioned as an officer in the Army today,” said Talan.
Swati's Earlier Commission
Swati, 27, had got there first. She was commissioned into the Navy as an officer in 2021. The young couple got married in 2024. Presently serving as a Lieutenant in the Indian Navy, Swati said that she is “immensely proud to see him (Talan) as a commissioned officer.”
“Despite joining the Air Force as a Corporal, he continued his efforts to get commissioned as an officer in the Army. We’ve finally realised our dream of serving the country as officers,” she added.
Father's Pride
Talan’s father, Dhirendra Singh, who retired from the Army as Subedar Major (Hon Lt) said, “Seeing my son and daughter-in-law donning uniforms of commissioned officers fills me with great pride and joy.”
