CPM to Attend INDIA Bloc Meeting Despite Congress Tensions
CPM to Attend INDIA Bloc Meeting Amid Congress Tensions

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPM] is maintaining a firm stance against senior Congress functionaries who have called for an Enforcement Directorate (ED) interrogation of former Kerala Chief Minister and politburo member Pinarayi Vijayan. However, the party has confirmed its participation in the upcoming INDIA bloc meeting scheduled for Monday in New Delhi. Rajya Sabha member John Brittas will represent the CPM at the gathering.

Party's Decision on Representation

CPM General Secretary M.A. Baby sent a letter to AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge on Friday, seeking clarification regarding the demands made by Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi for ED action against Vijayan. According to CPM functionaries, such actions by Congress leaders are undermining the unity of the INDIA bloc. A party source stated, "We will be attending the meeting as we cannot retreat from our fight against the BJP and its communal and authoritarian rule. However, the party general secretary will not be present."

Internal Party Stance

The CPM has reportedly decided that senior functionaries like Baby should refrain from attending such meetings until the issues raised by the party are resolved. This decision underscores the party's frustration with the Congress leaders' demands, which they perceive as detrimental to the coalition's strength. Despite these tensions, the CPM remains committed to the broader objective of countering the BJP's influence.

The INDIA bloc, formed to challenge the BJP in the 2024 general elections, has faced internal disagreements, but the CPM's participation signals its continued dedication to the alliance's cause. John Brittas, a prominent Rajya Sabha member, is expected to convey the party's concerns during the meeting.
