Deepika Newspaper Reaffirms Uncompromising Editorial Stance at 140th Anniversary Rally
In a powerful declaration of independence, Fr Michael Vettikkatt, the managing director of Rashtra Deepika Ltd, asserted that the Church-run daily Deepika fears no earthly authority, reserving reverence solely for the Almighty God. This statement was delivered during the concluding session of an announcement rally held at Thirunakkara in Kottayam, organized to commemorate the newspaper's milestone 140th anniversary.
Unwavering Commitment to Free Expression
Fr Vettikkatt emphasized that a thorough examination of Deepika's editorials reveals a steadfast refusal to compromise its freedom of opinion before any individual or institution. "Deepika has not altered its positions at all. Opinions will be expressed openly and will continue to be so," he affirmed, highlighting the publication's enduring legacy of candid discourse.
Rooted in Social Vision and Legacy
The managing director elaborated on the newspaper's foundational principles, tracing them back to the social visions of Jesus Christ. He noted that initiatives championed by the Church, such as establishing schools alongside places of worship and implementing midday meal programs, are direct implementations of these broader humanitarian goals. Deepika's forefathers were pioneers in advocating these causes, and their spirit continues to guide the publication today.
As Deepika embarks on its 140th year, every member of the Deepika family is reportedly prepared to uphold and proclaim these unchanged stances. The rally served as a platform to reinforce this collective resolve, ensuring the newspaper's voice remains clear and consistent in the public sphere.
Notable Absence at the Event
In a related development, N Hari, the BJP representative who was invited to participate on stage among other dignitaries, did not attend the function. His absence was noted but did not detract from the core messages of the event, which focused on Deepika's historical journey and future commitments.
The anniversary celebrations underscore Deepika's role as a pivotal media entity in Kerala, blending religious ethos with journalistic integrity. The rally in Kottayam not only marked a significant temporal milestone but also reaffirmed the newspaper's dedication to its founding ideals of social service and fearless expression.
