Delhi Fire Tragedy: Building Owner Dies Saving Family in Tigri Extension
Delhi Fire Kills 4 in Tigri Extension, Owner Dies

A devastating fire in South Delhi's Tigri Extension area claimed four lives on Saturday evening, including the building owner who ensured his family's safety before perishing in the blaze himself.

The Tragic Incident

The fire broke out around 6:24 PM on Saturday, December 1, 2025, engulfing a four-storey building that housed both residential units and commercial establishments. The building owner, Satender (38), managed to evacuate his wife and children to safety but could not save himself from the rapidly spreading flames.

According to police reports, the massive fire left three men and one woman dead, with another person injured. Satender had been running his business in Tigri Extension for approximately four years, with a brief hiatus before resuming operations about one-and-a-half years ago.

Heroic Sacrifice and Family Loss

Satender's brother-in-law, Neeraj Gupta, shared heartbreaking details about the incident. "His life was in that building. He had two shops there. I think the fire broke out on the first floor, due to a short circuit. He made sure his wife and children were out, but could not save his own life," Gupta stated emotionally.

The tragedy has left Satender's family devastated. He was the sole earning member of his family and is survived by his wife and three children. Beyond his business operations in the building, Satender was also involved in the transport sector.

Building Layout and Victims

The four-storey structure contained multiple residential units alongside commercial spaces. Each floor featured two two-room sets, with three to four of these units being rented out to tenants. Fortunately, some families residing in the building were not present during the incident, potentially preventing higher casualties.

During rescue operations, authorities discovered the bodies of three men within the premises. While Satender was identified among the deceased, another victim was recognized as Anita (40), one of Satender's tenants. The identity of the remaining victims remained unconfirmed at the time of reporting.

Anita succumbed to her injuries during treatment at Safdarjung Hospital, adding to the death toll from the tragic incident.

Rescue Efforts and Investigation

Initial investigations by police suggest the fire likely originated from a footwear shop located on the ground floor of the building. Emergency services were promptly alerted, and rescue operations commenced immediately with the assistance of local police and residents even before fire tenders reached the scene.

The combined efforts of emergency responders and community members helped contain the situation, though the rapid spread of flames proved fatal for those trapped inside. The building had been Satender's home for over a decade, making the loss particularly poignant for his family and the local community.

Authorities continue to investigate the exact cause of the fire while the community mourns the loss of four lives in this preventable tragedy.
