As Delhi grapples with an intense heatwave, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has issued comprehensive guidelines to protect residents, particularly school children and outdoor workers. The measures include a mandatory three-hour break for workers during peak heat hours and revised school timings to avoid the hottest part of the day.
Key Guidelines Announced
The Delhi government has directed all schools to remain closed or operate with reduced hours from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM, when temperatures are expected to soar. For construction workers and other laborers, a compulsory break of three hours in the afternoon has been mandated. Employers are required to provide adequate shade and drinking water at worksites.
Impact on Daily Life
The heatwave has led to a surge in heat-related illnesses, with hospitals reporting increased cases of heatstroke and dehydration. The government has also set up cooling centers in public places and advised citizens to stay indoors during peak hours. Water tankers have been deployed in areas facing water shortages.
CM Gupta urged residents to remain vigilant and follow safety protocols. She emphasized that the government is monitoring the situation closely and will take further action if needed. The guidelines are effective immediately and will remain in place until the heatwave subsides.
