In his detailed statement to authorities, he described how approximately five individuals approached the campaign gathering on two-wheelers before one of them launched the glass bottle attack.
The police have registered a comprehensive case under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, specifically including charges related to rioting, armed rioting, causing hurt by dangerous weapons, criminal intimidation, and attempting to commit offences. Law enforcement officials have confirmed that an active investigation is currently underway to identify and apprehend the suspects.
Leoni's Public Response and Political Implications
In a video statement shared across his social media platforms, Leoni directly addressed the attack, characterizing it as a "vile act by opposition parties stemming from fear of electoral defeat." The DMK campaigner emphasized that neither he nor his political party would be intimidated by such violent tactics.
"This cowardly attack only strengthens our resolve," Leoni declared in his public statement. "We will not be deterred from our democratic campaigning. In fact, our campaign efforts will become more intense and determined following this incident."
