A split-second decision by the driver averted a major accident on Monday morning in Himachal Pradesh's Chamba district after the brakes of a Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) bus failed suddenly.
Incident Details
The bus was en route from Agahar to Chamba with over 50 passengers on board when it suddenly went out of control near Nadu, approximately 5 km from Chamba town. According to eyewitnesses, sensing a technical fault, the driver immediately alerted passengers and steered the bus into a roadside hill. The impact brought the bus to a halt, preventing its plunge into a nearby gorge.
Response and Safety
A police officer confirmed that no serious injuries were reported. Locals rushed to the spot and helped evacuate passengers safely. The officer added that a slight delay or misjudgement could have turned the incident into a tragedy.
This incident highlights the importance of driver alertness and quick decision-making in emergency situations. The HRTC bus, which was carrying a full load of passengers, could have faced a catastrophic outcome if not for the driver's timely action.
