A roof collapse at an eatery in Marpally town, Vikarabad district, on Saturday morning left four people injured. The incident occurred at HKN Tiffin Centre around 11 am when only a few customers were present. The injured were promptly admitted to a local hospital and are reported to be out of danger.
Rescue Operation
Vikarabad DSP C Anjaiah stated that the roof suddenly caved in, trapping four customers under debris. Alerted by locals, police teams rushed to the spot and, with the help of residents and an earthmover, cleared the debris and rescued the victims. The injured were identified as Nazeer (18), Chandana (12), Ramesh (31), and Shiva Kumar (28), all residents of Marpally.
Background of the Building
The eatery’s operator, Imran, had stepped out minutes before the collapse to purchase flour. Preliminary investigations revealed that the building was constructed by the SC Corporation and allotted to a Marpally resident, Ramulu. After Ramulu’s death, his son Chakrapani inherited the property and recently leased it to Imran, who had been running the tiffin centre.
The DSP noted that the building was in a dilapidated condition and that recent rains may have weakened the structure, leading to the collapse. A case has been registered at Marpally police station under Section 125(a) (causing hurt by an act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against the building owner and the eatery operator.
