ED seizes Rs 1.4 crore in Bhullar money laundering raids

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has seized approximately Rs 1.4 crore in cash following a series of raids conducted in connection with the money laundering investigation involving former Member of Parliament Sukhdev Singh Bhullar. The searches were carried out at multiple locations in Chandigarh and surrounding areas on Wednesday.

Details of the Raids

The ED officials, accompanied by central security forces, raided premises linked to Bhullar and his associates. The operation was part of an ongoing probe under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). Sources confirmed that incriminating documents and digital evidence were also seized during the searches.

Allegations Against Bhullar

Sukhdev Singh Bhullar, a former MP from the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), is under investigation for alleged financial irregularities. The case stems from a previous FIR registered by the Punjab Police involving illegal sand mining and extortion. The ED had initiated money laundering proceedings based on that FIR.

During the raids, authorities recovered cash amounting to Rs 1.4 crore, along with property documents and bank records. The exact locations and number of premises raided have not been disclosed officially, but sources indicate that the operation covered at least six sites.

Legal Proceedings

The ED is expected to file a prosecution complaint against Bhullar and others involved. The agency has already recorded statements from several individuals. Bhullar has denied any wrongdoing, claiming the cases against him are politically motivated.

This development comes weeks after the ED attached assets worth several crores belonging to Bhullar and his family. The investigation continues as authorities trace the flow of illicit funds.
