Eight people died after a pick-up van they were travelling in fell into a well in Maharashtra's Solapur district on Saturday, police said. The incident occurred in the early hours near a village in the district.
Details of the Accident
According to Solapur guardian minister Jaykumar Gore, initial reports indicated that 14 persons were on board the van at the time of the accident. Rescue operations were launched immediately, and the bodies of eight victims have been recovered so far. The search for the remaining six persons is ongoing.

Gore said that the district administration has been directed to provide all necessary assistance to the affected families. He also expressed condolences to the bereaved families and assured them of strict action against those responsible for the negligence.
Police have registered a case and are investigating the cause of the accident. Preliminary investigations suggest that the driver may have lost control of the vehicle, leading to it plunging into the well.
Community in Mourning
The local community has been left in shock after the tragic incident. Villagers gathered at the site as rescue teams worked tirelessly to retrieve the victims. The well, which is about 30 feet deep, made the rescue operation challenging.
Authorities have urged people to remain calm and avoid spreading rumors about the incident. Further details are awaited as the investigation progresses.
