A tragic incident unfolded in Ahmedabad where an engaged couple, a 17-year-old girl and an 18-year-old youth, died by suicide after jumping into the Narmada Canal, police reported. The body of the boy, identified as Himesh Bharatadi, was recovered, but the body of the girl, Abha Bharatadi, remained missing until late evening, according to Adalaj police.

Eyewitnesses informed the police that the couple took the extreme step on Saturday morning. Adalaj Police Inspector S D Desai stated that a case of accidental death has been registered, and further investigation is underway. Witnesses recounted that the girl was seen running towards the canal after parking her two-wheeler, and then she jumped into the water.

The families of the couple were called to the scene and questioned about potential reasons for the suicide. Police said the families told them that the two had left their homes, saying they would return soon. The couple was engaged and planned to marry after reaching the legal age for marriage.
