Nagpur: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday described the Congress party's condition in the state as "very fragile," calling it an internal matter while remarking that the situation reflects a deeper organizational weakening.

"When I see the condition of such an old party, I feel for its workers," he said, offering a pointed assessment even as he maintained distance from what he termed the party's internal affairs.
Review of Infrastructure Projects
The CM reviewed major government infrastructure projects in Nagpur, flagging deficiencies in execution and directing officials to address gaps while reiterating a broader push to strengthen public healthcare systems.
During visits to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital (IGGMCH), Mankapur Sports Complex, and the upcoming Collectorate and Divisional Commissioner complexes, Fadnavis said he identified a few shortcomings in some projects.
"Most of the work has been done well, but I have noticed certain deficiencies. These have been pointed out to officials of the public works and medical education departments," he said, adding that efforts were underway to ensure "no lapses remain in the works of the government."
Focus on Healthcare
Emphasizing service quality, he said, "Patients must receive quality treatment, and medical students should get strong infrastructure and education," outlining the administration's dual focus on healthcare delivery and academic standards.
Fadnavis also highlighted a policy shift to expand the Mahatma Phule Jan Arogya Yojana within government hospitals, saying it has begun generating revenue through insurance reimbursements. "Government hospitals have good infrastructure, skilled doctors, and capable systems. With this scheme, they are receiving funds that can support their regular expenses," he said.
He added that relying solely on private hospitals limited the scheme's reach and that inclusion of public institutions made it "more comprehensive," with a rise in procedures and surgeries. He noted that IGGMC performed well under the scheme.
Political Developments
On political developments, Fadnavis declined to comment directly on statements by Shiv Sena leaders, saying, "The authority to speak officially rests with Deputy CM Eknath Shinde. Questions should be directed accordingly," while indicating that BJP spokespersons would respond to remarks made by others.
Addressing the issue of caste sub-classification, Fadnavis said the process was being carried out in line with Supreme Court directives. He noted that a one-member committee headed by a retired High Court judge submitted its report and that public feedback was being invited before a final decision.
