Fadnavis Forecasts BJP-MGP Dominance in Goa's 2027 Assembly Elections

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis made a bold prediction on Monday, asserting that the BJP-MGP alliance is poised to secure a commanding two-thirds majority in the next Goa assembly election, scheduled for 2027. His statement came during a high-energy public meeting in Ponda, held just a day before campaigning concluded for the crucial Ponda byelection.

Ponda Byelection Rally Draws Massive Crowd

The BJP's rally in Ponda attracted approximately 1,500 attendees, where party leaders passionately appealed to voters to support BJP candidate Ritesh Naik. They framed the vote as a tribute to former Chief Minister and Agriculture Minister Ravi Naik, who passed away in October last year.

Fadnavis downplayed the immediate political impact of the byelection, stating, "This one seat will not have any effect on the government." However, he expressed confidence that the people of Ponda would honor Ravi Naik's legacy by electing Ritesh, even if opposition parties withhold support.

Sawant Unveils Major Job Creation Initiative

Concurrently, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced an ambitious plan to generate around 5,000 new jobs within the next eight months. This initiative includes:

  • Filling approximately 2,500 positions through the Goa Staff Selection Commission.
  • Creating another 2,500 jobs via the Goa Human Resource Corporation for individuals who have completed Class XII or undergraduate studies.

Economic and Development Highlights

Fadnavis also highlighted significant economic discussions, revealing that an investment of Rs 8,000 crore for Goa was deliberated at the World Economic Forum in Davos. He praised the continuity of social welfare schemes initiated by former Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar and sustained under Sawant's leadership.

In a broader geopolitical context, Fadnavis noted that while many countries have declared emergencies or adjusted work schedules—such as three-day or four-day weeks and work-from-home policies—due to the US-Israel and Iran conflict, India's Prime Minister has ensured the provision of oil and gas to all citizens.

Infrastructure Upgrades for Ponda and Curti

Chief Minister Sawant reaffirmed commitments from the BJP manifesto, announcing that the sub-district hospital in Ponda will be upgraded to a district hospital. Additionally, the state government has allocated Rs 100 crore for the development of Ponda and Curti, with plans to secure an equivalent amount over the next nine months to further enhance infrastructure and public services in the region.
