Farmer Dies by Suicide Over Debt and Crop Failure in Amravati

A 33-year-old farmer from Shendurjana Ghat in Amravati district allegedly died by suicide after consuming poison due to distress caused by mounting debt and crop failure. The tragic incident took place on Saturday at Shendurjana Ghat town.

Details of the Incident

The deceased has been identified as Akshay Patil, a resident of Shendurjana Ghat. According to reports, Patil owned agricultural land at Satnur and relied on farming to support his family. On Saturday, he left his house and reportedly consumed poison before returning home. When his health began to deteriorate, family members questioned him, and he revealed that he had consumed poison.

His relatives immediately rushed him to the Rural Hospital at Warud for treatment. However, given his critical condition, doctors referred him to the District General Hospital for advanced medical care. Unfortunately, he succumbed to the poison on the way to the hospital.

Investigation and Family Statements

Officials from Warud Police conducted the panchnama and later transferred the case to the Shendurjana Ghat police station for further investigation. Family members stated that Patil was under severe mental stress due to crop failure and debt loans. He is survived by his mother, wife, and brother.

This incident highlights the ongoing distress faced by farmers in the region due to agricultural challenges and financial burdens. Authorities are investigating the matter further.
