A farmer died on the spot after being struck by lightning as unseasonal rain battered Darati village in Umarkhed taluka of Yavatmal district on Thursday. A woman and a young boy were seriously injured in the incident.
According to information, farmer Srinivas Rathod and a few others were engaged in agricultural work in the farmland near Darati village when heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning began unexpectedly in the afternoon. Amid the storm, lightning struck the labourers working in the field. Rathod (45) died instantly. A woman and a small boy sustained severe injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The incident has caused shock and grief among the local community. Unseasonal rains have been affecting several parts of the region, disrupting agricultural activities and posing risks to farmers. Authorities have advised people to take precautions during thunderstorms and avoid open fields.
