In a dramatic display of parental courage, a father fought off a leopard to save his young son during a terrifying ambush in an agricultural field in Bahraich district, Uttar Pradesh. The incident occurred on Saturday evening in the Sujauli forest range, highlighting the growing human-wildlife conflict in the region.

The harrowing episode unfolded in Ayodhyapurwa village when Ajmat Ali was walking with his son through a field en route to a wedding ceremony. Without warning, a leopard emerged from nearby bushes and launched a sudden attack, pouncing directly on the child.
Despite the shocking assault, Ajmat Ali refused to relinquish his grip on his son's hand. Displaying remarkable presence of mind and physical courage, the father immediately engaged the leopard in a desperate struggle to protect his child.

Witnesses described how Ajmat Ali pushed the powerful predator with all his strength, forcing the animal to retreat and ultimately releasing his son from the beast's grasp. The injured boy was initially taken to a local health facility before being referred to the community health centre at Mihinpurwa for more comprehensive treatment. Medical authorities confirmed that while the child suffered significant injuries in the attack, he is now out of danger and recovering steadily.

Divisional Forest Officer Apoorva Parikshit confirmed that a team led by Range Officer Rohit Kumar promptly inspected the attack site and visited the victim's family at the hospital. "Immediate financial assistance of Rs 5,000 is being processed for the family to help with medical expenses and recovery," stated Parikshit.
The forest department has intensified monitoring in the area following the incident, with officials noting that such encounters have become increasingly common as human settlements expand into traditional wildlife habitats.

In a separate but related incident from the Katarniaghat Wildlife Division, a 45-year-old farmer named Jawahar Singh narrowly escaped a leopard attack while returning home from a market near Amritpur. The predator suddenly lunged at Singh near a forest patch, inflicting injuries before the quick-thinking farmer accelerated his motorcycle to safety.
Singh was subsequently admitted to a health facility for treatment, marking another worrying instance of human-leopard conflict in the region. Wildlife experts emphasize that these incidents underscore the urgent need for comprehensive strategies to mitigate such dangerous encounters.
