Dibrugarh: In a tragic incident near Arunachal Pradesh's East Kameng district on Saturday, five men from Assam's Lakhimpur district died after their vehicle plunged into a deep gorge near Pagaso stream, along NH-13.

Accident Details

Preliminary reports indicate that the vehicle skidded off the road after the driver reportedly lost control. Police said further investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of the accident.

According to East Siang SP Shivendu Bhushan, the accident came to light after East Siang police station received a call around 8:15 am, informing them about a pick-up van carrying five passengers that had fallen into a gorge near Pagaso stream.

Victims Identified

The deceased, all hailing from Lakhimpur, have been identified as Amjat Ali (38), Bulbul Ali (24), Nur Hussain (38), Saidul Islam (32), and Abul Hussain (34). Police said that the victims were businessmen who were returning home after attending the Friday market at Rilloh.

While four out of the five were found dead at the site of the accident, one of the passengers was shifted to the district hospital in Seppa, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Possible Cause

According to local sources, heavy rainfall in the area might have contributed to slippery road conditions, which may have led to the accident. The vehicle was found mangled at the scene.
