Four youths, three of whom were siblings, drowned after they slipped into deep waters while bathing at an anicut in Rajasthan's Dungarpur district on Sunday, according to police. An anicut is a small, low dam built across a river or stream to supply water to nearby fields.
Incident at Likhi Badi Village
The incident occurred in Likhi Badi village under the Dhambola police station limits. Six youths from the same family had gone to bathe at the anicut near a school ground. Police identified the deceased as Hina (24), her brother Prateek (20), sister Ishita (15), and their cousin Raunak (20), a resident of Palanpur in Gujarat. They slipped into deep waters and began drowning.
Hearing their cries, locals rushed to the spot and attempted to rescue them but failed. Two children, Rajveer and Jaysingh, were safely brought out of the water. The bodies of the deceased were later retrieved by police with the help of villagers and shifted to a mortuary, officials said.

The tragedy has raised concerns about water safety in rural areas where open water bodies like anicuts lack safety measures. Local authorities have not yet commented on preventive steps. The incident highlights the dangers of bathing in unsupervised deep waters, especially during monsoon season when water levels can rise suddenly.
According to police, the family members were residents of the area, with Raunak visiting from Gujarat. The exact depth of the water at the anicut has not been disclosed. No official statement has been released regarding any potential negligence or safety violations.
