Vidarbha Residents Voice Frustrations at Gadkari's Public Hearing in Nagpur
Frustrated by prolonged bureaucratic delays and perceived civic apathy, a diverse group of residents, farmers, and even young innovators from across the Vidarbha region approached Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Sunday. They sought urgent resolutions for a wide array of pressing issues during a Janta Darbar, or public hearing, held at Gadkari's office in Khamla, Nagpur.
Land Ownership and Rehabilitation Woes Dominate Discussions
Nearly 200 residents from Kundanlal Gupta Nagar reported a critical problem: despite living in the area for over five decades, they are still not recognized as legal owners in government records. "Our only demand is rightful ownership," emphasized Mangesh Satpurkar, a local resident. Other citizens highlighted similar hurdles in securing ownership of plots and slum dwellings, even after being officially allotted land.
A delegation from Khapri brought attention to an incomplete rehabilitation process, revealing that only 50% of their settlement has been properly rehabilitated. This leaves the remaining half of the community living in constant fear of eviction and without basic amenities.
Infrastructure Deficits and Transportation Challenges
Wardha resident Aadarsh Sharma pointed out a glaring infrastructure gap: people in his society must take a detour of several kilometers to reach a main road that is barely 200 meters away. "We even have to pay unnecessary toll," Sharma lamented, underscoring the financial and logistical burden on residents.
From Bhandara, Ramesh Supare raised a long-standing transportation issue, requesting the restoration of superfast train stops at the Bhandara railway station. "Express trains do not halt here for the past 20 years, causing significant inconvenience to commuters," Supare stated, highlighting the impact on daily travel and connectivity.
Agricultural and Social Welfare Appeals
Farmers from Hingna appealed for the construction of a bridge over a local drain to ensure seasonal access to their fields, which are often cut off during rains. Representing 250 sugarcane farmers, Chandrashekhar Bhende sought financial aid to deepen a stream that irrigates their farms. This stream currently overflows during the monsoon and dries up in summer, severely affecting agricultural productivity.
Senior citizens utilized the platform to seek assistance with government schemes such as the Shravan Bal and Sanjay Gandhi Niradhar Yojana, aimed at providing support to the elderly and destitute. Simultaneously, persons with disabilities submitted petitions for prosthetic limbs and essential support services. In response, Gadkari issued orders for immediate aid to address these urgent needs.
Youth Innovation and Government Response
In a forward-looking segment, Gadkari reviewed presentations from young innovators focused on cutting-edge areas like Electric Vehicles (EVs), advanced battery technology, and enhanced highway amenities. Praising their ingenuity and entrepreneurial spirit, Gadkari instructed officials to actively explore and potentially implement these innovative ideas.
The Janta Darbar was attended by key officials from the Nagpur Municipal Corporation, district collectorate, and Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT), ensuring that concerns were heard by relevant authorities. This gathering underscored the community's reliance on direct political engagement to bypass bureaucratic hurdles and secure actionable solutions for long-standing issues.
