The Indian Air Force (IAF) captivated a massive audience of more than 10,000 students with a spectacular display of military might and precision at the Air Force Station in Pune's Lohegaon area. The event, held on Friday, November 28, 2025, was a key part of the ongoing 'Know Your Forces' air awareness campaign.

Thrilling Displays and Interactive Sessions

The highlight of the day was a breathtaking demonstration by the IAF's elite Garud Special Forces, who showcased their agility, combat readiness, and specialized training. The skies above Pune were also alive with action as precision skydiving teams descended with accuracy, drawing roaring applause from the crowd.

Adding to the spectacle was a dynamic equipment flypast and a static display of advanced fighter aircraft, including the powerful Sukhoi 30 MKI jets stationed at the base. The event was not just about watching; it was about engaging. Students participated in interactive sessions with Air Warriors and ground teams, gaining a unique, firsthand insight into the life and challenges of serving in the Armed Forces.

Inspiring the Next Generation

According to an official release from the IAF, the primary goal of the campaign was to inspire the nation's youth to consider a career in the Indian Air Force. By showcasing its war-fighting potential and the sophistication of its frontline platforms, the IAF aimed to spark ambition and patriotism among the attendees.

Air Commodore Satbir Singh Rai, the Air Officer Commanding of Air Force Station Lohegaon, was present and expressed his gratitude for the support from the Civil Administration, which was instrumental in making the event a grand success.

Strategic Significance of the Pune Base

The Air Force Station Lohegaon is a crucial asset under the Gandhinagar-headquartered South Western Air Command. It is home to two formidable squadrons of the Sukhoi 30 MKI: the '20 Squadron' (Lightnings) and the '30 Squadron' (Rhinos).

The Garud Special Forces, formed in 2003, are a critical component of the IAF. They are trained for a variety of high-stakes roles, including acting as a Quick Reaction Force, protecting vital IAF assets, conducting search and rescue operations, and undertaking counter-terrorism missions. Their valiant services have also been utilized in UN missions and for extricating Indian nationals from conflict zones abroad.
