A political row within the Haryana BJP escalated on Saturday after Rajya Sabha MP Rekha Sharma accused former chief minister Bhajan Lal and his son of electoral misconduct, alleging they had won polls through what she termed as 'badmashi'. The remarks triggered a sharp response from BJP leader Bhavya Bishnoi, who termed them 'unfortunate' and said that those who reached the Rajya Sabha through others' favour were now talking about winning elections.
Bishnoi's Strong Rebuttal
Calling Bhajan Lal a 'PhD in politics', Bhavya Bishnoi added that any disparaging comment against him was an insult not only to the family but also to his supporters. He warned that such statements could have electoral consequences, noting that the same vote base gave the BJP new social ground. He urged the party leadership to take cognisance and demanded an apology, stating that such language is not used even against political opponents and does not align with BJP's culture.
Veiled Warnings and Growing Unease
In a separate post, Bishnoi invoked a proverb hinting at inexperience and lack of grassroots connect, while avoiding naming anyone directly. Meanwhile, Kuldeep Bishnoi, who is currently in the United States, also reacted with a veiled warning, writing that if provoked, the consequences could be sweeping. The controversy has triggered unease within the state BJP, with leaders and supporters terming Sharma's remarks 'highly condemnable' and seeking action, signalling that the fallout may not subside soon.
