Haryana Minister Champions Women's Reservation Bill at Tosham Nari Shakti Event
A district-level 'Nari Shakti Vandan' programme held in Tosham on Thursday transformed into a powerful demonstration of support for women's political empowerment. Haryana Women and Child Development Minister Shruti Choudhry delivered a compelling address, asserting that the proposed women reservation bill will usher in a new era of inclusive governance across India.
Minister Highlights Vision Behind Women's Reservation
Addressing a large and enthusiastic gathering at Tikona Park, Minister Choudhry emphasized that the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam reflects the "far-sighted vision" of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. She detailed that this landmark legislation will ensure 33% reservation for women in both the Lok Sabha and state legislative assemblies, fundamentally altering the political landscape.
"Greater participation of women in decision-making will accelerate balanced and sustainable development," Choudhry stated, connecting political representation directly to broader socio-economic progress. She argued that empowering women in legislative bodies is not merely a matter of equity but a strategic imperative for national advancement.
Grassroots Success and National Campaigns Cited
Highlighting the Centre's proactive initiatives, Choudhry referenced the pivotal 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' campaign, which was launched from Panipat in 2015. She noted that this program has significantly contributed to improving the child sex ratio and transforming societal attitudes towards the girl child throughout Haryana and beyond.
"From discrimination to celebration, the journey reflects a significant shift in mindset," the minister remarked, underscoring the cultural evolution driven by sustained policy efforts. She pointed to tangible outcomes where once-prevalent biases are being replaced by recognition and support for daughters.
Haryana's Leadership in Women's Political Representation
Choudhry also showcased Haryana's pioneering role in women's political empowerment at the local level. The state has already implemented 50% reservation for women in panchayats and urban local bodies, a policy that has yielded visible and impactful grassroots leadership by women.
"Today, women are not only participating but also leading and making independent decisions," she added, illustrating how local governance has been strengthened and diversified through this quota system. This existing framework, she suggested, provides a successful model for the proposed national-level reservations, demonstrating the capacity and effectiveness of women in leadership roles.
The event in Tosham served as both a celebration of women's achievements and a clarion call for further legislative action, with Choudhry's speech reinforcing the government's commitment to gender equality in political spheres.
