Haryana Scraps IT Saksham Yuva Yojna; Youth Uncertain

The Haryana government has scrapped the IT Saksham Yuva Yojna, a scheme introduced to offer IT training and employment opportunities to the youth, leaving many aspirants uncertain about their future prospects.

Scheme Withdrawn After 21 Months

The Citizen Resource Information Department (CRID) confirmed the withdrawal on its portal, effective Monday. Officials stated that the scheme has been discontinued and may be upgraded in the future. Launched in 2024, just ahead of the assembly elections, the scheme aimed to make around 60,000 youth IT-literate under the Kaushal Rozgar initiative. It had received cabinet approval with a budget outlay of Rs 40 crore.

Opposition Leaders React

The decision drew sharp reactions from opposition leaders. INLD national president Abhay Singh Chautala termed it a "betrayal of youth", alleging that promises made before elections were not fulfilled after coming to power.

Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Randeep Singh Surjewala also criticized the move, calling it a setback for educated youth. He said the scheme had promised employment opportunities and stipends after training, which will now not materialize.

Key Benefits Under the Scheme

  • Selected candidates were to receive a stipend of Rs 20,000 per month during training, rising to Rs 25,000 after placement.
  • Those unable to secure jobs, with an annual income below Rs 3 lakh, were to be given an unemployment allowance of Rs 10,000.

Opposition leaders said these assurances now stand withdrawn.
