Governor Shukla Presides Over Grand Republic Day Celebrations in Shimla
Shimla witnessed a vibrant display of patriotism and unity as Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla led the state-level celebrations for the 77th Republic Day at the historic Ridge on Monday. The event marked a significant moment in Himachal Pradesh's calendar, bringing together dignitaries, security forces, and citizens to honor India's constitutional legacy.
Flag Unfurling and Parade Inspection
Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla commenced the proceedings by unfurling the national flag amidst ceremonial pomp. Following this solemn act, he inspected the parade, which was led by Additional Superintendent of Police, Shimla, Mehar Panwar. The governor then took the salute from an impressive march past commanded by Lieutenant Shashwat Tiwari of the 1 J&K Rifles, showcasing military precision and discipline.
Distinguished Presence and March Past Highlights
The function was graced by Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and Lady Governor Janaki Shukla, among other prominent figures. The march past featured contingents from various forces, including the Army, Indo-Tibetan Border Police, Sashastra Seema Bal, Punjab Police, Himachal Pradesh Police, home guards, fire services, postal services, disaster management teams, ex-servicemen, National Cadet Corps, National Service Scheme, Bharat Scouts and Guides, and other units. Their synchronised movements not only reflected exceptional discipline but also embodied the spirit of unity and national pride.
Awards and Cultural Extravaganza
In a touching moment, Governor Shukla honored Ritik Chauhan from Gagana village in Shimla district with the ‘Uttam Jeevan Raksha Padak' for his exemplary courage in saving lives. The celebrations were further enriched by colourful tableaux that highlighted developmental initiatives and achievements of various government departments, drawing special attention from the audience.
Cultural performances added a vibrant touch to the event. Artists from the North Zone Cultural Centre in Patiala presented captivating folk dances from Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana, and Uttarakhand. Additionally, the Eklavya Kala Manch of Himachal Pradesh Police staged a powerful street play titled ‘Drug-Free Himachal' to raise awareness about the dangers of narcotic substance consumption and smuggling, particularly chitta. Performers from Hamirpur and Shimla also enthralled the crowd with their artistic expressions.
Wide Participation and Statewide Engagement
The function saw the presence of numerous dignitaries, including Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur, Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh, MLAs Kuldeep Rathore and Mohan Lal Brakta, Shimla Mayor Surinder Chauhan, and various senior civil, police, and military officers. People from across Himachal Pradesh gathered to participate in the celebrations, making it a truly statewide event that reinforced communal harmony and patriotic fervor.
